A re-build of Ocado’s customer fulfilment centre in Andover after a devastating fire at the facility in 2019. Peter Marshall Steel Stairs are supplying nearly two dozen steel stairs as part of the construction project.
The state of the art new facility will be 210,000 square feet, and it will process tens of thousands of customer orders every week. The facility will include freezer, chill and ambient warehouse spaces and multi-level mezzanines. Further developments of a large office block, multi-storey car park and a large vehicle ramp, in a significant re-configuration of the existing space.
The new customer fulfilment centre will use robot pickets to select individual items and place them in bags. This was being trialled before the fire, and it hoped that the robots will improve efficiency by a significant margin in the future. They will work alongside people on the site.
While the new Ocado site is around 8000 square feet smaller than the original building, advances in technology mean it will be able to handle nearly double the number of orders per week. The new facility will employ around 1700 people across a variety of different roles. They range from our warehouse operatives, to Management as well as Engineers, Tech support and Drivers.
As part of the construction, Peter Marshall are supplying 23 sets of steel staircases, a ship ladder, CAT Ladder and steel balustrade.
