As part of a transformation of Terminal 2 at Manchester Airport, Peter Marshall were asked to design, manufacture and install 3 steel staircases.
Terminal 2 at Manchester Airport is undergoing a major transformation as it embarks on a £1.3bn programme of work that will see the largest terminal double in size.
The first phase will include a number of refurbished shops, featuring both local and high street favourites. The expanded terminal will also see an increase in the number of airlines departing from Terminal 2. Terminal 2 will eventually serve around 70% of all the airport’s passengers.
A major feature of the final phase of the development will be the Great Northern Market. The 472 seat food hall will bring the best of Manchester’s street food scene to the airport featuring international street food kitchens.
Mace were appointed by the Manchester Airports Group (MAG) to manage the second phase of the development. This will include the construction of the second phase of the new Pier 2 to create additional contact served aircraft stands. Mace will also engage with over 1,500 young people across Manchester and ensure that at least 5% of the workforce will be apprentices for the duration of the project.
As part of the project at Manchester Airport, Peter Marshall were asked to design, manufacture and install 3 steel staircases. Peter Marshall also believe in taking an active role in improving communities, which is why we are proud to be members of the 5% club. This reflects our commitment to education and getting involved with schools to raise the profile of jobs in construction and the steel industry.
A challenging part of the new terminal is a 216 tonne, two storey link bridge. The bridge will connect the existing terminal building to the new pier that is currently under construction. More than 270 pieces of steel were used to construct the new bridge, including metal decking and 150mm concrete slab flooring. The 90 foot long, 33 foot high bridge was pre-assembled on the airfield over three months before being moved into place.
Once completed, the new Terminal 2 will offer world class facilities, including shopping experiences and dining to all international travellers. Peter Marshall are proud to be playing a role in such a major project that will generate a lot of new jobs and make a significant contribution to the local economy
