One Leadenhall Street is a new 35 storey tower being constructed in London that will offer 40,000m2 of office accommodation, a free public terrace on the fourth floor, and ground floor retail space. It sits adjacent to the Grade II listed Leadenhall Market, and the project involves enhancing the surrounding pedestrian environment, with widened and resurfaced pavements.
The design, construction and use of building is targeting BREEAM Excellent and WELL Platinum Building Standard, to enhance the health and wellness of building users, meet sustainability goals and continue to perform optimally over time.
Peter Marshall Steel Stairs has worked collaboratively with the main contractor, Multiplex – to design, fabricate, manufacture, and deliver 2 large scale steel stairs, within the slip formed concrete cores.
The project encountered difficulties at various stages during construction, but due to early engagement and collaborative working, these were overcome. Whilst the concrete cores were slip formed, there was restricted access to the required working areas. The Peter Marshall team mitigated any delays by designing a safe and innovative temporary bridge solution to enable works to continue safely for all parties.
The temporary bridge design was nominated for a monthly site innovation award by Multiplex.
In addition to the main stair structure, the team also provided a number of temporary safety measures to protect the workers on site. These include a proprietary temporary balustrade system, which will later be removed, before a permanent balustrade system is installed. Another temporary safety feature was a moveable protective shroud, which meant no loose debris could fall below the current working level.
The details of the project are as follows-
Stair 1
9,535 Total Cut Pieces
3,464 Total Assemblies
15,377 Total Bolts
104 Tonnes
Stair 2
10,188 Total Cut Pieces
3,585 Total Assemblies
16,559 Total Bolts
114 Tonnes
