The renowned Guildhall School of Music and Drama has now completed a major building project to expand its City of London facilities. Known as Milton Court and located adjacent to the school’s current building, the new premises will open in September 2013 providing state of the art performance and teaching spaces.
Marshall Steel Stairs were delighted to be selected to design, fabricate and install four staircases within this prestigious project. One of these staircases is within the Concert Hall area and is a feature fully cantilevered design, clad in mahogany timber incorporating glazed balustrades. The remaining staircases have glazed balustrades and timber handrails.
Speaking on behalf of Marshall Steel Stairs, Contracts Manager, Kieran Ganley, commented,
“The installation process really was a work of art, to ensure that the structural compliance of the stairs was maintained. This process involved offering the stair flights into their finished location at the differing floor levels whilst also utilising temporary works to support the cantilevered landings to maintain their position and structural capability. The flights were then lifted from their floor level locations to conduct the necessary welding to connection profiles, before being lowered back to their final dimensionally correct positions and making good the connections”.
